Smart i-Building

Summary

Wipro, the global technology company, has been developing solutions that bring digital transformation to infrastructure owners and operators by turning traditional buildings and campuses into smart spaces.

Over the past several years, Wipro has worked on their Smart i-Building solution, which focuses on real-time monitoring, alerts, and incident management for large buildings and campuses around the world.

Wipro realized that their customer infrastructure was not ready to enable digital transformation. Accurate data was hard to come by, and when available, it was not in a standardized format or even in a digital form.

Wipro decided to bring together their experience of over 15 years in automation, access control, and business intelligence to develop a solution that enables them to address their customers' need to further their digital transformation journey. Upon looking at available technologies, infrastructure digital twins emerged as the natural next step as the foundation for an enterprise solution that enables their clients to achieve their vision of smart buildings that are efficient, safe, comfortable, energy efficient, and sustainable.

Solution

Wipro leveraged the iTwin Platform to integrate and overlay Internet of Things (IoT) data onto interactive 3D models of the buildings. The iTwin Platform also allows the Wipro Smart i-Building app to trigger workflows in the event of anomalies detected by IoT sensors and other equipment.

The solution is already deployed at one customer site and is being tested. The feedback has been encouraging and Wipro is getting ready to take the Smart i- Building app to their automation clients worldwide.

Impact

Wipro also realized there is an untapped opportunity for developing bespoke infrastructure-centric solutions on a digital twin foundation. With this goal in mind, over 20 Wipro specialists have been accredited on the iTwin Platform.

Wipro plans to host an iTwin hackathon in India with some of their key clients to identify additional solutions and collaborative opportunities with Bentley Systems that can extend powered by iTwin solutions.
